Keep in mind, the trail turns to gravel before reaching the bridge and then you can continue walking up a few steps to have optimal viewing of the falls. The elevation is 70 feet. A permit is not necessary.

Angel’s Rest

For those looking for a more moderate Columbia River Gorge hiking experience, then Angel’s rest is an excellent choice for you. The summit is 1,600 feet with breathtaking views of the western side of the Gorge and the eastern side of the beautiful city of Portland. Hikers should expect a 4.8-mile round-trip hike which can be accessed off the Historic Columbia River Highway near Bridal Veil Exit 28.

You’ll experience a peaceful walk through the forest before seeing yet another gorgeous waterfall. During the peak month of May, hikers will have the pleasure of seeing countless wildflowers in bloom. The season of use for this hike is March to December. Elevation is 1,450 feet. A permit is not necessary.

Augspurger Mountain Trail

Rounding out the list of best gorge hikes includes this beauty. If you complete the entire hike, you will travel 16 miles! During the walk, you will see a variety of wildflowers, exquisite views Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, as well as Silver Star Mountain. Due to the elevation of 4,400 feet as well as the length of the journey, this section is suggested for experienced hikers. Keep in mind – you will need a permit.
